Best for writing every kind of review: Perform Review

Perform Review is for people who write reviews: your own, a peer’s, and your team’s if you manage. You keep an achievement log on the web or from a Slack command, and it drafts self, peer and manager reviews from it. Its Pro plan, listed as coming soon at $11.99 a month, adds a coach with guides for a promotion or raise conversation: talking points, likely pushback and a script.

You pay by the season: credit packs from $3.99, or a pass at $9.99 for 30 days or $24.99 for 90. It doesn’t know the bar for your next level, its drafts don’t cite your entries, and it’s a young product from one founder. More in Winsly vs Perform Review.

Best for capture from engineering tools: BragBook

BragBook is a wins timeline on the web for engineers, designers and product managers. On Premium it imports work from GitHub, Jira, Linear, Asana and Dovetail, and its Career Composer turns your entries into a self-assessment, 1:1 updates or interview stories.

It’s free for 25 entries, and Premium is $8.99 a month. It has no bar for your next level, its drafts don’t cite entries, and there’s no coach. More in Winsly vs BragBook.

Best value for a year of evidence: Bloomly

Bloomly is a career journal for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Typed entries are free. Pro adds voice, pulls in GitHub work, Google Drive files, forwarded emails and screenshots, and writes reports for any period, 1:1 prep and promotion packets. Its coach shows the sources behind each answer.

Pro is $49.99 a year, the lowest yearly price here, or $5.99 a week. It works from a job description or your promotion criteria rather than your manager’s words, has no job search, and runs only on Apple devices. More in Winsly vs Bloomly.

Best for your company’s promotion criteria: CareerClimb

CareerClimb is an iPhone coach for getting promoted. Photograph your company’s promotion criteria and it maps your wins to each one, then exports a self-review, a promotion case or a manager update. You log by voice or text, and its coach, Summit, preps you before a 1:1.

It’s $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year, with a free tier. It’s iPhone only, captures nothing on its own, and is new, with 1 App Store rating so far. More in Winsly vs CareerClimb.

Best for proving the bar your manager set: Winsly

Winsly starts from what your manager said the next level takes, and links each win to the part of that bar it proves. Your review case keeps the strongest few for each part. On Pro, Winsly drafts your self-review from it, for its own questions or your company’s, and every line shows the win it came from. A colleague who saw the work can verify a win by email.

Free keeps the wins log, the bar, the case on screen, manager updates and 10 verifications a month. Pro adds self-review drafts and the case as a PDF for $20 a month or $200 a year, more than the apps above. It doesn’t pull in work from GitHub, Jira, Slack or email, and it’s web only.

Best if you’d rather do it yourself: ChatGPT or Claude

A general assistant writes a good first draft from whatever you paste in, and you may already pay for one. Both are free to start, or $20 a month for ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro.

Neither keeps a dated record of your wins or knows the bar for your next level, so the draft is only as good as what you remember to paste, and every number is yours to check. Winsly connects to both, so you can log a win from the assistant you already use. More in Doing it yourself in ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini.

Best for the official review: Lattice or 15Five

If your company runs reviews in Lattice or 15Five, that’s the system your manager reads, and it’s free to you. Lattice drafts your self-review from 1:1s, feedback, goals and updates, cites its sources, and flags thin evidence instead of filling the gap (Lattice, July 15, 2026). 15Five began drafting self-reviews in a beta in September 2026, adding connected Slack, Jira, Asana and Google Drive (15Five).

Both draft only from what your company’s systems and connected tools hold, so wins that never reached a 1:1 or an update aren’t there, and the record stays with your employer if you leave. More in Lattice and 15Five vs Winsly.

Questions

How do I prepare for my performance review?

Start from what your manager said the next level takes, gather the wins that show each part, and draft your self-review from them. Leave routine work out, and end with what you’re asking for. Self-review examples.

Can AI write my self-review?

Yes. ChatGPT, Claude and most tools here draft one, and Lattice and 15Five now draft from what your company’s systems hold. A draft is only as good as the evidence behind it, so check every number before you submit.

What’s the best tool for performance review prep?

For the official review, your company’s tool. To draft every review you write, Perform Review. For capture from engineering tools, BragBook or Bloomly. Winsly is for a self-review that proves the bar your manager set, every line citing a win.

My company uses Lattice. Do I need anything else?

Lattice is the system your manager reads, so use it. Its drafts can only use what’s in Lattice, so keep your own record of the wins that never reached a 1:1 or an update. Lattice and 15Five vs Winsly.

When should I start preparing for my review?

A month before, at the latest, to draft and check your self-review. The evidence is easier to gather as you go: a win logged the week it happens keeps its numbers and its names. How to keep a brag document.
